ive talked to several people about this particular issue, and if this is the 2nd or third time youve heard it, feel free to go read or do something better with your time. for example, this site.
i have 3 issues with work study in no particular order
- it's made up.
people dont really need the work the students do. it's not like these instructors went and talked to the financial aid people and were like "hey i sure do need someone to sit here and blog for 15 hours a week" no. what happened was financial aid went to the instructors and said "hey do you need someone to work for you??" of course they said yes. i mean, if youre offering right?
2. time is given due to need
for example: if i have no money and my finances suck, im going to recieve more weekly hours than the next guy who has more money. in communist russia, this kind of thing would be fine. but in free enterprise america, i resent the idea that im getting this "job" because i need it more than the next guy. which brings me to problem 3.
3. the money is part of our financial aid
when our money for the semester is added up, the total we'll make is added to the financial aid amount. this is OUR money for school and stuff...it's like, they want to give it to us one way or another, but hey let's get some BS work done anyway, or in my case, waste my time.
but hey what am i complaining about? i get paid 7.50 an hour to blog and beast minesweeper!
what irks me is the people in the student development center. check this out.
we're not supposed to work at times we're scheduled to have class (duh) so i dont. however, i have a class (P.E.) that has a scheduled time of like 2:00 or something on i dont know what day. it's not important. what you as the reader of this story should take away from this is that it doesnt matter what time it says it is on my schedule. i can go work out any time i want. i just need to log in 40 hours by the end of the semester. the class doesnt even meet. it's an individual thing. so whatever. i go in my breaks when i dont have class and arent working. but on a couple of days out of the week, the time at which im scheduled to work coincides with the time im supposed to be in P.E. (according to the almighty schedule.)
this shouldnt be an issue. but apparently, on the first time sheet i turned in, i found out it was very much an issue. so much so that she (kendra from student development) marked off all my times when i was supposedly in class. but hey it was my first time. i didnt know any better. so we emailed the PE teacher and got that all straightened out. but wouldnt you know she marked them all off again for NOV and OCT. thats about $100 worth of stuff. yeah the works not real, but im not ready to throw that away.
so according to her, i was still supposed to be in class EVEN THOUGH my PE teacher emailed her and explained that i dont really have class at that time. she wants an email for every time im not in class when im working.
word on the street is shes pretty hard to get along with and ill attest to that.
whatever
